People often ask a simple question: Why “Global Traveler”? Are you a Travel Agency? Closely followed by another: Are you new to the business?
The answer is clear—we are not new to this work. We are the result of decades of field experience, global exposure, and disciplined risk thinking that has evolved into a modern Business Intelligence and Risk Management organization built for today’s world.
Built on a Foundation of Global Experience
Global Traveler was founded by our President, Dr. Barry L. McManus, a seasoned Intelligence professional who worked in over 142 countries. Dr. McManus served more than three decades supporting sensitive national security operations and later transitioned into the private sector, contributing to defense intelligence and security-focused organizations following his government retirement. His background set the tone for what Global Traveler would become: a company grounded in precision, discretion, and mission-driven results.
Leadership Forged in Intelligence & Investigations + Real-World Risk
In 2011, I joined Global Traveler and took on comprehensive oversight of both international and domestic investigations, along with complex security and risk programs. Before the private sector, I served as a senior detective with a Virginia Police Agency, bringing more than two decades of law enforcement experience to the company’s operational leadership.
My career included work within elite tactical investigative environments—covert operations, intelligence gathering, surveillance, tactical execution, and proactive countermeasures designed to address high-risk threats. I also had the honor of being deputized and working alongside multiple federal agencies, participating in numerous domestic/international investigations that required disciplined judgment and high-integrity outcomes.
Beyond law enforcement, I supported distinguished clients in the private sector, organizing security and investigative programs across Southeast Asia and other regions, while leading corporate international investigations spanning Europe, Asia, Central America, and South America. That experience shaped how we operate today: globally capable, locally informed, and always risk aware.
From Behind the Scenes to a Clear Market Mission
While Global Traveler began development in 2006, our growth accelerated as we supported organizations as a discreet subcontractor and trusted partner—often operating “in the shadows” by design. From 2011 through 2023, we quietly assisted a wide range of clients, including private equity firms, family offices, law firms, the yachting industry, private aviation, multinational corporations, executives, boards, investors, NGOs, and global security teams.
